MADU GANGA LAKE

The Madu Ganga is Sri Lanka’s second largest wetland. Take a full day, or overnight trip, with Borderlands to the Madu Ganga, With over 300 species of plants and 248 vertebrate animals, the Madu Ganga is one of Sri Lanka’s last remaining pristine mangrove forests. The Madu Ganga contains 62 islands covered with lush mangrove forests. A few Sri Lankans inhabit the islands, and there is an interesting wooden bridge connecting the large, central island to the mainland as well as a Buddhist temple. The wetland is easily accessible from the Galle coast road, however feels so far away from civilization.
