Borderlands operates from of our riverside camp in Kithulgala, Sri Lanka. The camp, located in the rugged foothills of the hill country and overlooking the Kelani River, is stunning. Our comfortable safari tents are situated just above the river, so you can relax and enjoy views of the lush countryside and jungle clad surrounding mountains. We hope you will take the opportunity to join our thrilling and heart pumping activities including white water rafting and kayaking, canyoning and abseiling. For those looking for something more sedate, the area offers beautiful walks and our flat water kayaking is suitable for all ages and abilities. The river is refreshing, our activities are awesome fun whilst being always safe, and our food is mouthwateringly delicious.
Our Eco-Lodge is built in harmony with its surroundings. Prioritising sustainability and the use of local resources natural and up-cycled materials were used to construct the lodge. With its open space we invite people to connect with nature and relax.
A native of Canada, Wade has almost 30 years experience delivering outdoor adventure and training programmes in North America and Asia for tourist, corporate and youth groups. He began his career in 1984 with the Canadian Outward Bound School, and Borderlands Sri Lanka was founded in 2004, after many years based at Borderlands Nepal. His love and unending enthusiasm has been at the heart of making Borderlands what it is today.
Laxmi Limbu, one of the founding members of Borderlands, has been an integral part of the team since its inception in 2003. With expertise in canyoning, canoeing, rafting, kayaking, and river expeditions, she’s the guiding force behind our thrilling adventures. Laxmi’s love for the outdoors extends to hiking, trekking, and swimming, making her a true nature enthusiast. Beyond her adventurous spirit, Laxmi is known for her warm hospitality. She enjoys interacting with our guests, creating memorable experiences in our longhouse and during our adventure activities. Her passion for both the outdoors and guest engagement embodies the spirit of Borderlands.
Isuri is our accountant with a passion for numbers. Currently pursuing her CA Sri Lanka qualification and holding a membership with the Association of Accounting Technicians, she brings a wealth of financial expertise to the team. Isuri joined us in February 2023 and her meticulous attention to detail ensures our books are balanced, allowing us to focus on delivering unforgettable adventure experiences at Borderlands.
Hasini, our Accounts Executive who joined us in July 2023. Currently pursuing a Business Management degree with a focus on Finance, Hasini brings her passion for numbers to the team. Outside the office, she’s an adventure enthusiast and a passionate traveler. Her enthusiasm for both adventure and finance adds a unique energy to our team, ensuring that our finances are as adventurous as our activities at Borderlands.
Ajith holds a special place in the Borderlands family as our longest-serving employee. With unwavering dedication, he assists the staff at our Colombo Head Office, ensuring the smooth functioning of our operations. Ajith’s experience and commitment have been invaluable in maintaining our administrative efficiency.
Samitha is our Eco Lodge Manager who oversees the operations and management of Borderlands camp at Kithulgala. Samitha’s passion for adventure goes beyond the office; he’s an adrenaline junkie with a deep love for all water-related activities. His dedication to his role extends to international participation in Canoe Slalom, Canoe Freestyle, and Rafting events in 2017 in France, where he honed his skills from the training and was part of the championship.
Luxman, the creative mind behind our online presence. As our graphics expert, Luxman designs and updates our website, which serves as our primary online gateway. He’s the artistic force responsible for crafting eye-catching graphic posts that keep our audience engaged. With Luxman at the helm of our digital efforts, we ensure that Borderlands’ online presence is as adventurous and visually appealing as the experiences we offer.
Araylia, the youngest guide on our team and Wade’s daughter, is a remarkable young adventurer. Fearlessly taking on all the adventure activities, she showcases remarkable physical and mental fitness, defying her age. Araylia’s unique role involves guiding school kids of her own age during our programs. Her youthful enthusiasm and relatability resonate with the young participants, inspiring them to embrace adventure with confidence.
Supun is our skilled safety rafter and kayaker at Borderlands. Hailing from Kithulgala, he knows the local waters like the back of his hand. On the river, Supun plays a crucial role in ensuring the safety of our guests. He scouts the best lines for our rafts and diligently patrols for potential hazards. With training in first aid, Supun is always ready to provide assistance when needed. He is soft-spoken and gentle in manner, calm and reassuring manner ensures the confidence to carry out the water adventure activities.
Kasun is your go-to guide for adventure at Ocean Safari and beyond. Whether you’re seeking ocean thrills, biking expeditions, or kayaking adventures, Kasun’s expertise covers it all. As a surf instructor in Weligama, he’ll have you riding the waves with confidence. With a passion for outdoor activities, Kasun brings his energy and knowledge to every excursion. He is soft-spoken and polite and gentle in manner while talking with guests and engaging them for the activities.
Kavi is your go-to guide for an array of adventures at Borderlands from down South. Whether you’re embarking on an Ocean Safari, exploring on a bike, paddling in a kayak, or catching waves with a surfboard, Kavi’s expertise will make your experience memorable. As a surf instructor in Weligama, he’ll have you riding the waves in no time.
Isuru is a versatile guide at Borderlands, specializing in various adventure activities. As a safety rafter and kayaker, he ensures that all water adventures are conducted with the highest levels of safety and enjoyment. He also guides guests for Canyoning through thrilling descents in the rugged terrain. Isuru has a friendly and gentle demeanor.
Raja, our esteemed chef since 2021, brings over two decades of culinary expertise to the Borderlands kitchen. With a wide range of specialties that encompass Western, Indian, and Sri Lankan cuisines, he tantalizes taste buds with his delicious creations. Hailing from Panadura, Raja extends a warm welcome to all, inviting you to savor the delights of this beautiful place by the Kelani River while relishing his culinary masterpieces.
Nimal has been delighting taste buds since 2013. Hailing from the charming town of Kithulgala, Nimal’s passion for cooking shines through in every dish he creates. One of his specialties is the delectable Sri Lankan cuisine rice and curry, a must-try during your stay at Borderlands. Nimal also lends a reliable hand in room service, ensuring that your stay is as comfortable as it is delicious.
Udani, a local from Kithulgala, is our dedicated Store Keeper. Since 2023, she has been managing our inventory with precision. With her background in Commerce A Levels, she handles procurement of kitchen goods, fresh veggies, and beverages efficiently. She’s the one coordinating with local vendors and ensuring the kitchen staff has everything they need.
Nanda, a dedicated member of our team since 2016, hails from the scenic town of Ginigathhena. With meticulous attention to detail, she takes care of our housekeeping and room servicing, ensuring that your stay at Borderlands is comfortable and welcoming. Her warm and friendly gesture adds an extra layer of hospitality to your experience.
Kusumavati, a cherished member of our team since 2015, hails from the charming town of Ginigathhena. She has a keen eye for detail to her role in housekeeping and room servicing. Kusumavati is a testament to the adage “age is just a number.” She manages her responsibilities with grace and efficiency. Upali has been an essential part of our team since 2019, taking on a multifaceted role at Borderlands. He assists guests with their luggage, ensuring a smooth check-in experience. Jaye is the driver ensuring the smooth operation of our camp and water adventure activities at Borderlands. As our dedicated driver, he assists in carrying rafts to the river’s edge, safely transports passengers to the water adventure activity zone from the camp, and ensures the timely delivery of essential goods for the camp.
Roshan serves as the vigilant security guard at Borderlands. His watchful presence ensures the safety and security of our guests and the entire property. He also supports with maintenance and help while check-in of the guests with luggage.
Kavinda is the steward and also serves at The Tea Wheel Bar at Borderlands camp. The bar offers a delightful array of drinks, including tea, coffee, shakes, juices, and a selection of tasty snacks like chips, popcorn, and fries. He prepares delicious shakes and juices, making it the perfect place to unwind and refresh at The Long House.
